"The boots you provided me worked very well and I didn't have my usual assortment of blisters from sidehilling, etc. Thanks for the superb job of fitting these boots to my feet and I intend to use them for many years, including and antelope hunt next month in Montana."

Lundhag Polar Quest Boot

Mountain Born, Mountain Bred

In our continued pursuit of exceptional footgear that meets the outdoorsman’s every need, we are excited to offer the Lundhag Polar Quest, a Pac boot unlike any other available today. These boots have been hand-built in the mountains of Sweden by the Lundhag family for 75 years. This boot features the support and warmth of a traditional Pac boot with the performance and function of our Hanwag line of boots. As well as offering the best of both a Pac boot and a mountaineering/trekking boot, it does so while only weighing 4 ½ lbs. per pair. We are confident the Polar Quest is going to revolutionize late-season mountain footgear.

A whole new animal

The Lundhag family is steeped with shoemaking heritage. Three generations of certified master craftsman have combined their expertise to ultimately develop the finest winter mountain boot in the world. Created to withstand the cold and wet conditions of northern Sweden the Polar Quest is the only boot available that blends the best features of both Pac and mountaineering boots into one complete package.

The Polar Quest features an aggressive, self-cleaning, high traction Vibram outsole, exclusive to Lundhag, insures that mobility is not sacrificed. This boot is designed with a mountaineering midsole, which is constructed of extra firm crepe and features a full-length steel shank. Six millimeters of EVA insulation covers the steel shank to further protect from the cold. The midsole offers heel-to-toe rigidity, ample heel height, heel strike, and toe spring which reduces foot fatigue that often results when traversing steep and rocky terrain.

The upper of the Polar Quest is constructed much like the common Pac boots on the market but with added features to further enhance its functionality and performance. It is twelve inches tall for added support while under load and constructed of full-grain, hydrophobic impregnated leather for enhanced water repellency. The vamp is quadruple stitched for added durability. The tongue is fully gusseted with calfskin to keep debris from entering the shaft and to allow for a comfortable fit. A technical lacing system, complete with ball-bearing d-rings, affords the user with an infinitely adjustable fit that securely locks the heel into place. A lightweight and waterproof cellular-rubber bottom, which was first introduced to the market by Lundhag, offers excellent protection from scree and shale. The toe and heel counters are also reinforced with a dimpled rubber rand to further extend the life of the boot.

The Polar Quest not only has a well-built shell and foundation, but also has plenty to offer on the inside. A removable liner was added to provide ample insulation for those cold days in the high lonesome. Consisting of sixty-percent wool and a blend of acrylic fibers the liner will continue to insulate if it becomes wet and dries overnight. Within the liner itself is a removable insole that features the same blend of wool and acrylic to provide further insulation while also having rigid foam from the heel to the ball to offer padding and support. This insole can also be removed and replaced with aftermarket insoles such as our High Country footbed. A full leather lining within the boot transfers moisture away from the foot and liner providing a dry foot throughout the day.

          Alone at the top

When compared to other Pac boots it is instantly apparent that the Polar Quest is on the next plateau. The Polar Quest weighs one and a half pounds less than the nearest competitor and still offers exponentially more stability and support. Developed and hand-built by individuals to thrive in the conditions that they live and work…the mountains!
